I know that this will be hard to believe but the answer is….YES! In 2021 we bought our dream home on a quiet street, a deep channel and a lift for our boat. Our dream came true right up until I began to have breathing problems…we searched but no mold was found. Then in 2024 Milton swamped our home! Who do you turn to when a catastrophe happens? We love the water and always go to the Florida Keys for Spiny Lobster season in the summer. I am fortunate to be able to work remotely and my husband has that ability from time to time, too. Having our boat docked at our back yard adds a wonderful addition to our lives.

Thankfully, after we moved into our home my husband didn’t have any difficulty breathing, but unfortunately I did. We honestly didn’t believe the problem could be inside our home since our neighbors knew the history of our street from previous owners. That’s how we knew that the street had never flooded. The odd thing about this problem was that I could breathe better at some times of the year and worse at others. Although my husband and I searched, no mold was found…until Milton came to call!

Our family and friends helped us cut out the soggy drywall and insulation and set up huge fans to dry the rooms. That was a hopeful part of this physical disaster…but there were other disasters to avoid as we went toe to toe with FEMA and our insurance company, too.
